Nutrition Lab
Explore ruminant nutrition interactively
Ten interactive tools to see how feed, the rumen and the cow’s metabolism are connected. Built for farmers, students, veterinarians and nutritionists, with the science and its limits shown openly.
Inside the animal
Interactive CowExplore organs and nutrient pathways across lactation stages.Open →Inside the CowFollow starch, fibre, protein or fat from feed to milk.Open →Live RumenChange the diet and watch fermentation and pH tendencies respond.Open →24 Hours in the RumenA day of feeding, fermentation and rumination on one timeline.Open →Rumen Microbiome ExplorerFunctional groups of rumen microbes and how diet shifts them.Open →
Feeds & rations
Feed ExplorerNutrient ranges, rumen behaviour and side-by-side comparison.Open →What Happens If?Build a simple ration and compare changes before and after.Open →Silage Fermentation SimulatorFrom harvest to feed-out: what drives good or poor silage.Open →
Herd situations

How to read the Lab
- Reference dataValues taken from published sources or the site’s feed guide.
- Educational simulationDirectional teaching models. Shapes and sizes are illustrative.
- Your dataNumbers you enter yourself, e.g. your own feed analysis.
- ConceptualSchematic diagrams and conceptual curves without units.
What the Lab is and is not
- It shows expected directions of change described in the scientific literature.
- Simulations are teaching models, not validated predictions for a cow, a herd or a ration.
- It does not diagnose disease or give doses. Animal health questions belong to a veterinarian.
- For your farm, real data (feed analysis, intake, records) and professional advice come first.
Calculators that use your own numbers
The Lab explains; these tools calculate with your data.
